Senior Personal Care Aide (Overnight Shift Manager)

OVERNIGHT SHIFT: 11:00PM to 7:00AM

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Health & Wellness Coordinator, the Senior Personal Care Aide’s primary role is to assure that residents of AIDS Services of Dallas receive a high standard of personal care as part of their total care plan. In fulfilling this role, the Senior PCA provides day-to-day supervision of the agency’s personal care aide staff members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Schedules the working hours of the agency’s Personal Care Aides (“PCAs”) and assures 24-hour coverage is maintained.

2. Schedules available PCAs to residents on the basis of the level of care necessitated by the physical and mental condition of the client.

3. Collects and reviews PCAs’ time-sheets for accuracy and completion on a timely basis.

4. Provides or assists individuals with personal care as a part of the total plan of care including:

A. Activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and toilet;

B. Meal preparation including specified diets and diet reinforcement;

C. Prescribed exercises; and

D. Assistance with oral medication.

5. Provides light housekeeping as necessary for maintaining residents’ environment and safety.

A. Laundry for resident as needed;

B. Cleaning of resident’s room and other rooms as specified;

C. General Housekeeping:

(1) Daily:

a. Removes trash from common areas and individual rooms, as needed;

b. Maintains and cleans common areas and hallways, as needed;

c. Inspects and cleans food preparation and storage areas;

d. Inspects and cleans stored foods and insures that all foods are properly wrapped and refrigerated;

e. Disposes of all food and leftovers routinely; and,

f. Maintains daily log of observation notes on each resident.

(2) Weekly:

a. Vacuums and mops all common areas and hallways;

b. Dusts and cleans reception area at the Ewing Center and Hillcrest House;

c. Cleans, sorts and stores articles of clothing maintained by the agency;

d. Cleans and arranges storage area for personal hygiene and household articles and supplies;

e. Maintains and stocks common living areas with needed supplies such as: coffee; sugar; tea; paper supplies, etc.; and,

f. Files observation notes on each resident in the client record files of the agency.

3. Attends weekly PCA meetings, and in-service and other meetings/training seminars pertinent to the position.

4. Responsible for identifying and reporting changes in resident’s health condition and reporting and documenting unusual behaviors or activities on the premises.

5. Agrees to participate in any and all Quality Management activities

6. Must physically work on site.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from an approved Texas Department of State Health Services home care training agency. At least two (2) years experience providing direct patient care is required. Supervisory ex­perience is desired. Other qualifications include: familiarity with emergency procedures, community resources, and good general knowledge of HIV/AIDS, good organizational skills, and an ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Must be able to access all properties including those that are not equipped with handicapped accessible features. Must be able to negotiate stairways and to access emergency alarm equipment. Must be able to assist with the emergency evacuation of medically compromised clients/residents in the event of fire or other emergency situations requiring evacuation of any facility. Must be physically able to lift, push or pull or otherwise move objects weighing a minimum of fifty pounds. Sensitivity to culturally, racially and sexually diverse client, staff and volunteer populations is essential. A valid driver license is required
